I've always loved drawing... but I've always loved writing stories. Anything from short stories, plays/musicals, novels and poems. I've written them all. So, when it came to writing and illustrating and publishing my very first children's book, I had a lot to choose from. This was the hardest part honestly. But then came Auni! A very spunky and sassy but highly intelligent five year old. Hopefully this will be the first of many books to come and maybe Auni will become a series! I hope that you enjoy this book.
Why did you choose Auni's Anger as your first book?
Without this sounding bad, I like creating problems. Problems that are solved with the simplest solution. In the story you'll see how something that seems super problematic on the outside is really not too bad of a problem at all. I've left it to the reader to decide what Auni was actually mad about, because I never mentioned it in the book! So that's for the reader to decide. As well as the actually solution...There were many that could be seen as the actual solution, but what do you think?
Why Anger?
As someone who has worked with a diversity of young children professionally over five years now, I've been introduced to all sorts of "problems". Many times kids think that their situations are very problematic and it leads to them calling themselves "bad". But they're not bad kids at all. They just need a bit more love and attention. Someone to understand them. Someone to take the time and listen or just be there... and so what if they have a certain disability or disorder? That doesn't make them any less special! That's exactly why I designed Auni with a head covering and skirt to represent Holiness because these kids are present EVERYWHERE. Not just "in the world". And that's okay!
AUNI WANTS TO KNOW... HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH ANGER?
In the book there were a few things that contributed in helping Auni deal with her anger. Little brother's kind words, a nice big hug, a deep breath and even a bowl of food. There are many ways that we can express and process our emotions. Auni wants to know : how do you deal with Anger?
